Structure:
Metallographic description: Heterogeneous structure: a mixture of carburized regions and regions of pure ferrite. The carbon content varies from 0-0.7% across the sample. The carbon-rich areas are anomalous, in that they have the appearance of bainite. The ferrite within the the carburized region and in the grain boundaries has a Widmanstätten structure, indicating a rapid cooling from high temperatures.
