Metallographic Description

Two samples were completely corroded. The remaining one is ferrite with bits of pearlite in the grain boundaries in some areas. Inside some grains are small needle/minnow shapes that may be iron nitrite. (If so, it means that the metal had been heated in air and had picked up nitrogen.) There is not much visible slag and as one would expect from a cross section, what there is is not oriented in any one direction.
