Metallographic description: The specimen is rectangular and thick in cross-section. The microstructure is that of a quenched beta-tin martensitic bronze over a dark and featureless gamma matrix. The needles are more concentrated in certain areas outlined by corrosion. There are numerous stress or quenching cracks. One end of the sample is squared off, while the other has been crimped around what may have been another piece of copper-based metal or malachite.
