Alloy: high-tin bronze
Where Cut: in half
How Mounted: cross-section mounted cut side up
Structure: As-cast.
Metallographic description: Only islands of metal are left in this piece. The structure is unusual for a high-tin specimen--according to the EDAX, this contains 20% tin. Islands of alpha, occasionally twinned, sit in a matrix of coarse alpha+delta eutectoid, . There are no martensitic needles, but in addition to the large dendritic blobs of alpha, there are many small rods of alpha in a Widmanstätten structure in the eutectoid. This is a high-tin piece that was cooled relatively slowly.
