Structure:
Metallographic description: Carburized iron, with carbon contents up to 0.7%. The pearlite, found mostly in the center, is very dark. There is pure ferrite near the edges, so the content specimen runs the gamut from pure ferrite to 100% pearlite. There is heavy corrosion on the edges, leaving only islands of ferrite there. The few slag stringers present line up longitudinally.
