Period Late Period

Alloy: high-tin bronze
Where Cut: not cut; mounted whole
How Mounted: 2 pieces:one cross-section (B), one lengthwise (A) in same mount.
Structure: Hot-worked and quenched.
Metallographic description: Beta-tin martensite A: Alpha and beta globules in a pale matrix of very fine needles, so fine that it is almost unresolvable. The fine lines are concentrated on the edges. There are larger needles (or may be slip lines) near the edges. The morphology of the lines is strictly in crystal directions, i.e., 90 degree and 30 degree intersections. B: some alpha in a sea of pale beta. Needles concentrate on the edges; they may be slip lines or mechanical twins.
